About Gemma

Gemma has been working in casting for over 20 years and is currently a casting director for the in-house casting department at the BBC. Gemma and her partner Sam Stevenson were nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for their work on the BBC adaptation of Emma.

As well as a casting career spanning television, film and theatre, Gemma has also worked at many leading drama schools and actors’ groups, running workshops and giving advice about auditioning, acting for camera, and how to self-tape.

TV casting work includes: Shakespeare and Hathaway, Don’t Take My Baby (2016 BAFTA winner), Casualty, Doctors, Father Brown (BBC1), Our World War (2015 BAFTA nominated), Glasgow Girls (BBC3), Nightshift, Care, The Snipist, The Minor Character and Nixon’s the One (‘Playhouse Presents’ for Sky Arts), The Selection (Warner Bros), four series of Silent Witness (BBC1), Martin Amis’ Money (BBC2), Consuming Passion, Mr Loveday’s Little Outing (BBC4), The Inspector Lynley Mysteries (BBC1), and many episodes of The Bill for ITV. In 2010 Gemma and her partner Sam received a Primetime Emmy nomination for their casting of Emma for BBC1.

Film work includes: Treasures, Leave to Remain, Private Peaceful, Babel, The New World.
